Pubblicato in Italia da PIEMME (2008) Il Bastardo della Regina è stata una piacevolissima sorpresa. Lettura estiva, veloce e coinvolgente. Un incontro con Elizabeth da una prospettiva nuova, o meglio, poco conosciuta:

Amante passionale, donna superba, madre tradita, ingannata, mancata. La ragion di stato, gli intrighi, i misteri, le complicità diventano magici ingredienti di una pietanza saporita.

Certo è un romanzo storico alla maniera di Robin Maxwell, dove molte realtà sono state sapientemente piegate all’esigenza narrativa, eppure la storia è credibile e godibile. “Verosimile” direbbero Manzoni e Scott. Forse anche vero? Julia Barrett ci invita a riflettere:

“…And by introducing us to the person of Arthur Dudley, [Robin Maxwell] has defied stodgy academics, who would have kept us from knowing that such a character existed.
